The Observatório de Tretas (Observatory of Online Feuds) is a project conceived by Rodrigo Carreiro and developed in partnership between the National Institute of Science and Technology in Digital Democracy (INCT.dd) and the Research Laboratory for Communication, Political Cultures and Economies of Collaboration (coLAB). Monitoring discussions in the online environment involves a series of decision-making stages, understood from four different moments: (1) the monitoring phase, (2) the identification of the public controversy, (3) data collection and (4) the delivery of analytical inputs.
SUMMARY coLAB has specialized in collecting social media content at large scale (big data), through specific packages of the R statistical language. These data are processed and anonymized, working in some cases with interpreted categorical data and, in others, with serial and quantitative data, to deepen the experimental design of investigations into political discussions on social media platforms.
