A multinational comparative experimental research project led by the Universiteit van Amsterdam. coLAB is part of this international consortium dedicated to investigating, in different countries, the impact of journalistic interventions on public trust and attitudes toward the press.
SUMMARY The decline in trust in the media is a growing concern for the journalism sector and also for the proper functioning of democracy. To restore public trust in journalism, paradigm-repair strategies have been developed, notably fact-checking and explicit journalistic transparency. However, the effectiveness of these strategies is still unknown. A synchronized experiment will be carried out in 14 countries to validate, from a transnational perspective, a sophisticated instrument for measuring trust in the media (WP1) and to investigate the causal relationship between exposure to journalistic repair strategies and public trust in the media (WP2). In this way, the project will provide evidence-based recommendations for researchers and media professionals. Status: Ongoing; Nature: Research.
