An overview of the characteristics and transformations of Brazilian Communication and Politics research since 1989, a foundational landmark of the field.
The year 1989 is considered the landmark for more systematic academic interest in themes of communication and politics. In 2006, as an action to consolidate this research field, Compolítica was formed. Based on several literature reviews over these three decades, we carried out a content analysis of the empirical papers from all editions of Compolítica from 2006 to 2021 (n = 650), seeking both to list characteristics of the field and to verify possible longitudinal changes. Although this is still exploratory research, our data indicate improvements over time in practically all variables regarding the quality of the methodological application of the studies. However, the data on the timid growth of the field’s interdisciplinarity deserve further discussion.
