DDoSLab report on gender-based political violence on digital platforms.
This report is anchored in a multiplatform analysis, with data extracted over six months, between July and December 2021, from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. The study seeks to analyze the manifestations of gender-based political violence on these platforms, addressing the attacks directed at female federal deputies and senators of the 56th legislature. Considering only the parliamentarians who had accounts on at least one of the four platforms and those who held an active mandate during the composition of this report, we started from a base of 91 names, 79 of them federal deputies and 12 senators. Mentions of these parliamentarians resulted in more than 4 million unique messages in the six months alone in which the data were collected. The study produced a sample from this content, in order to observe how gender-based political violence manifests itself, and to compare its incidence across the different platforms.
